Chesterfield Lumber Company, Inc. is a relatively small, yet ever-growing, family-owned firm in Darlington, South Carolina. It is the largest privately owned sawmill in South Carolina and the 127th largest softwood mill overall in the United States.
The corporation's main business is to procure southern yellow pine timber and produce lumber from that timber. The company was founded in Chesterfield, South Carolina in 1939 by J. E. Triplett and later moved to Monroe, North Carolina. The company then moved to its present location in 1951. Today, the company is still a family affair with 3rd and 4th generation family members managing the mill.
Since the year 2000, however, the lumber industry has become incredibly competitive, with many private mills shutting their doors and large publicly-owned mills dominating the business. To avoid becoming another small business to fall victim to the same fate, we have gotten back to our roots; that is, Chesterfield is once again producing high quality flooring. This puts our mill in a unique position. It has become a cross between a high production mill and a specialty mill, and the benefits are passed on to you in the form of quality and savings.
Our family stands behind every product that we manufacture, and we think that you'll be happy with them too!
The sawmill uses between 80 and 100 truck loads of logs per day. Most of this is used to produce framing lumber, but the very best logs that we receive are turned into flooring and other interior products. Small specialty mills don't have this advantage; whatever logs they buy are the logs that are turned into flooring. Because we purchase such a large quantity of logs, we are able to be very selective and use only the highest quality logs for our flooring. Additionally, because of the size of our mill, we are set up to produce large quantities of flooring which reduces the price of our interior products. So, give us a try. Our family stands behind every product that we manufacture, and we think that you'll be happy with them too!
